India Travel Insurance

India Travel Insurance should be carefully considered by anyone traveling to India, whether for business, tourism or any other purpose.

India is a vast country, with a wide variation of geography. Most people need a visa to travel to India, which you can get at the Indian consulate near you. However, the citizens of many countries can get an eTourist visa (or eTV), which you must apply for online at least 72 hours in advance. Once you arrive at the airport, the visa will be stamped.

India has many tourist places. The capital New Delhi has parliament, the president's house, Kutub Minar, Red Fort, Akshar Dham, India Gate, Humayun's tomb and many other tourist places to visit. Several hours away on Yamuna Expressway is Agra, where the Taj Mahal is located. The Taj Mahal is a marble tomb that the emperor Shah Jahan built in memory of his wife, Mumtaz Mahal. The Taj Mahal is considered a wonder of the world.

The western state of Rajasthan has many famous cities, such as Jaipur, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, Udaipur and Bharatpur. Each city has many famous forts and palaces that show the royal history and vibrant culture. The best way to visit them is to take a cruise train, such as the Palace of Wheels or Maharaja Express. It is a lifetime experience.

The state of Gujarat has the Gandhi Ashram in Ahmedabad, where Mahatma Gandhi used to stay.

For nature lovers, the beaches of Goa and Kerala are fantastic. They offer warm temperature year-round. Kerala also has unique backwaters to cruise in. There are many hill stations in South India, such as Ooty and Kodai Kanal.

While visiting India, you should not drink tap water or eat anything that is not cooked well. That means you should avoid anything cold, such as salads or fruits (unless you cut them yourself). Drink only boiled or bottled water. Avoid eating spicy food. Many westerners are merely not used to handling spicy food or contaminated water. Therefore, you should avoid ice cubes as well.

India has many languages, including 22 official languages. Different languages are spoken in various states. However, English is widely spoken and understood. Hindi is the most commonly spoken Indian language.

Even though you should tip around 10 percent at restaurants, tipping the taxi driver is not expected.

Before visiting India, it is a good idea to get proper vaccines, such as for typhoid, tetanus and Hepatitis A. Visit your nearby travel health clinic for them. Additionally, you should also start taking malaria medicine (Mefloquine) once a week for one week before visiting India, once every week while in India and once a week for four weeks after arriving back home from India. That will help protect you against the mosquito-based disease.

If you get sick or injured while visiting India, visiting a public hospital is not a good idea, as the quality of care is very questionable. You should instead visit a private hospital, but they will not treat you unless you pay them money upfront or are willing to work with the insurance company.

Therefore, it is always a good idea to purchase proper travel medical insurance while visiting India.
